UMJ FTan Alumni Share Experiences on Muhammadiyah Day VII
was appointed as the technical team for the VII Bermuhammadiyah Day activities which were held at the At-Taqwa Mosque UMJ, Saturday (28/10/2023).
To enliven this event, FTan UMJ presented four of its best alumni who are currently active in various fields, from research, media, to government institutions. They are researchers from the National Research Agency (BRIN) Ir. Basril Abbas, Head of News for MNC Popi Palichan, SP. M.Sc., Secretary of Bojongsari Subdistrict Head Suhendar, SP., and Chair of the Agricultural Area Development Group of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture's Planning Bureau, Dr. Lim Muharam, M.Sc.
These alumni attended the sharing session and shared their experiences since graduating from the UMJ Faculty of Agriculture. They all emphasized that Ftan UMJ already has many advantages, both in facilities, teaching staff, and student achievements. These alumni also provided motivation in front of the hundreds of students who attended, so that they would be able to adapt in whatever field of work they would later pursue.
Muhammadiyah Day VII carries the theme "Muhammadiyah Mobilizes Generations of Achievements to Improve Indonesia's Food Security". Therefore, in his remarks, the Chancellor of UMJ, Prof. Dr. Ma'mun Murod, M.Si., said that overcoming the problem of food security requires commitment from various parties. According to him, currently realizing full food security is only done by farmers.
"Food security will not be realized if there is no commitment. In fact, our success in getting through the last pandemic was only because our farmers were resilient," said Ma'mun.
On the same occasion, the Dean of UMJ Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ir. Sularno, explained that food issues have always been an important issue. HBM is a momentum, apart from introducing Muhammadiyah, but also inviting Muhammadiyah organizations to play a role in thinking about food security issues in the future.
"We invite all parties to play a role in Muhammadiyah towards food security. "Hopefully this 7th HBM will bring Ftan and UMJ to be superior and progressive," hoped Sularno.
Alumni Ftan Basril Abbas, a BRIN researcher who already has 13 patents, also commented on the seventh HBM theme. According to him, food security is important for a country because it covers the livelihoods of many people. Moreover, Indonesia has fertile land that has great potential if used well.
Furthermore, Abbas advised that with current technological developments, it is also necessary to collaborate to improve agricultural development.
In another session, Popi, an FTan alumnus who has been involved in the media field for a long time, emphasized that as the largest Islamic organization, Muhammadiyah must be actively involved in helping to achieve food security.
"We have to take a larger portion to support increasing food security. As alumni, we will also take part in helping this happen," continued Popi.
Bermuhammadiyah Day is a routine UMJ agenda which is held every two months. This time, HBM VII became a momentum for the large Ftan UMJ alumni family to hold a follow-up gathering and elect an alumni chairman.
